Our Story

Hellos in the hallway, Classroom Confidantes Magenta hair stripes, And green knee socks.

Befriended me in chaos, Providing clarity My sudden absence mattered, A true friend- Wendy.

Went to lots of trouble, She finally tracked me down, Visiting my shattered bubble In a motel that was run down.

With no moment of hesitation, She said emphatically- "Laura, you can't stay here, You must come stay with me."

True to their loving nature, The Solteros welcomed me to their home. They didn't even know of me, Yet treated me as their own.

So Wendy and I for a time were like siblings Together all the time Introduced me to all her friends And eventually, they grew to be mine.

Remember the maroon Mercedes? With seat warmers and windows down Wendy would belt out songs As we joyfully cruised around.

For these days I never thanked her I thought there was no need- Surely I'd have plenty of time To repay her thoughtful deeds.

Wendy was my angel She truly saved my soul- She brought me to her family And they've pushed me to my goals.

In this time of sorrow, A comfort- there is one Wendy's helping others As she had always done.

A long time ago she had her halo, An angel's face, and wings Now it's just official Even though it stings.

What we can learn from Wendy What we could use the best Is to always love deeply And exhibit spark and zest.

Never save love for a special occasion, But embrace every day Make everyone your friend- That was Wendy's way.
