I couldn't get through the day today without remembering two Valentine's Days with Wendy. One year at Hockaday, we had each decided somehow (I don't think it was a specific decision, but nonetheless...) to eat as much Valentine's candy as humanly possible. All the girls at Hockaday were parading around with thier giant flower arrangements and teddy bears from thier boyfriends that would be on display in the foyer for the rest of us to gawk at. Wendy and I just ate. We inhaled chocolate kisses, candy hearts, cupcakes, cookies and other heart shaped crap. By the time photography class rolled around, we were crazy. It was unlike anything we had experienced. We couldn't sit still, we could do nothing but giggle uncontrollably, which we did. Uncontrollably and incessently. Until, Mr. Brady kicked us out of class. We sat in the hallway and rolled around laughing, hyped up on Valentine's cheer, which we decided was so much better than flowers. The next year, we changed our minds. We decided we wanted flowers, and we wanted them to be on display in the foyer with the others. We made a pact. I would provide hers. She would provide mine. Once Valentine's Day rolled around, we each ran to the foyer to act surprised at our "boyfriend"'s thougtfulness. Her card to me was signed, "Love always, Brad Pitt". My card to her:, "Love always, Pierce Brosnan". We got to pick our boyfriends. Even better than Valentine's chocolate.
