I was extremely saddened to read the Dallas Morning News today. I had not heard about this tragedy and was not prepared for the shock of Wendy not being a part of this world any longer.

I used to work with the Highland Park United Methodist Church's Youth Department while Wendy was in Junior High and High School. She and Janet B. were inseparable and I referred to them, and several others, as "My Kids". I used to look forward to Sunday evenings so I could see them and listen to their stories of what was going on in their lives. When I moved to New Hampshire Wendy and Janet wrote to me and kept me up to date on what was going on with "My Kids". I still have the photo they sent me with their dates to a dance they went too framed.

The last time I saw Wendy was her senior year in High School. I had just moved back to Dallas and we met at Café Brazil for coffee and cake. It was great to see her and she seemed so excited to head off into the world. At the time she was talking about going to NYU, I guess she changed her mind. I lost track of her after that and have often wondered where she was and what she was doing. After looking at her drawings I only now realize how artistic and talented she was.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Soltero Family and all of Wendy's many friends.
